West Side Story
to Mar 17

West Side Story

Come on out to Berkeley, CA to catch Michael as "Big Deal" in West Side Story at Berkeley Playhouse playing February 15th to March 17th.

One of the most groundbreaking and romantic musicals ever written, West Side Story resets Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet to the 1950s and the turbulent and passionate streets of New York’s West Side.

Tony is a dreamer, ready to leave his street gang behind and face the future head-on; Maria is idealistic and looking to explore womanhood and the world beyond her family’s dress shop. When the two meet, their worlds stop—and cultural divides and societal expectations give way to star-crossed love.

Featuring one of the most exciting scores ever written for the stage, and a story that tackles topics of prejudice, street violence, and the need for compassion between communities, this Berkeley Playhouse premiere will rumble in your heart long after the final note is sung.

Come on out to Berkeley, CA to catch Michael as "Eugene" in Grease at Berkeley Playhouse playing June 22nd to August 5th.

It’s 1959, and the kids from Rydell High are back from summer vacation for their senior year—and what a memorable one it will be!

Good girl Sandy and leader of the pack Danny had a brief fling during their “summer nights," but when Sandy shows up at Rydell as a new student, romance gets replaced with reputation, and musical theater’s most beloved couple must navigate sock-hops, slumber-parties, and social rivalries before finding their true selves, and that unique community one finds in high-school that realizes “we go together!”

One of the most popular musicals of all time, Grease will have audiences hand-jiving all summer long as the Pink Ladies and Burger Palace Boys take to the Julia Morgan stage for this rock-n-rolling '50s celebration of teen spirit.

Music by John Kander
Lyrics by Fred Ebb
Based on a book written by Christopher Isherwood
Directed and choreographed by Kevin Covert
Music direction by Rick Edinger

As the 1920s draw to a close and Germany yields to the Third Reich, a garish Master of Ceremonies coyly urges audiences of the Kit Kat Klub to “forget all their troubles.” However, behind the Emcee’s bawdy song and dance of the Cabaret, the dark and tumultuous realities of life in Nazi-controlled Berlin, begin to surface. Hailed by critics when it arrived on Broadway in 1966, Cabaret tells the story of Cliff, a young Americanwriter, who falls for a cabaret singer, Sally Bowles. Meanwhile, Fräulein Schneider, proprietor of Cliff and Sally’s boarding house, tentatively begins a romance with Herr Schultz, a Jewish fruit vendor. Revered for its bawdy yet intelligent wit and raucous nature, Cabaret is a dazzling story of following your heart even in the midst of chaos and decay.

***Cabaret contains mature language, partial nudity, adult themes and imagery that some audiences may find disturbing or offensive. Several theatrical effects are used in this production, including fog, haze and cigarette smoke. Please contact the Box Office for more details.

Considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy, "Guys and Dolls" ran for 1,200 performances when it opened on Broadway in 1950. It received nearly unanimous positive reviews from critics and won a bevy of awards, including Tony Awards, Drama Desks and Oliviers. Set in the mythical New York underworld, the oddball romantic comedy follows two small-time gamblers as they pursue love and luck—from the heart of Times Square and the cafes of Havana, Cuba, to the sewers of New York City.
